Mego's Peggy Bundy and Nostalgia Go Together Like a Horse and Carriage

Mego Peg Bundy
Mego was the king of action figures in the 70's. The formula was simple: an 8-inch action figure line with soft goods clothing and doll hair for characters who benefited from it. To maximize their reach, Mego didn't specialize in one franchise, they made toys for every brand they could: from Marvel to DC, Star Trek to Planet of the Apes, and Charlies Angels to CHIPS.  If it was on a screen, odds are MEGO made a figure of it.

Forbes Contributor Gives Disney Path of Atonement for Firing James Gunn

James Gunn

Apparently Forbes contributor Scott Mendelson thinks Disney and Marvel must atone for the sin of firing James Gunn from his role as director and script writer for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 3 after a history of pedophilia-related tweets came to light, and he's offered a few opportunities for the corporate HMFICs to "save face" in the way they proceed.

Heaven forfend Disney and Marvel should simply keep their focus on producing great movies. No, they must now be ready to not just hire a new director -- they have to cast one.

Did Peter Fonda Tank Boundaries with Twitter Rant?

Boundaries

Peter Fonda drew shock and outrage across the country when he took to Twitter with a profanity-laced rant; and it may have been a bridge too far for moviegoers.

Taking to the Internet to vent about immigration policies, Fonda's comments included suggestions about tossing President Trump's son Barron into a cage with pedophiles. These comments went public barely a week before Fonda's newest movie, BOUNDARIES, was to see limited release from Sony Pictures.

The Bond Movie We Want To See: GoldenHair

Goldenhair

It's only a trailer -- and it's only a joke. Nevertheless, Huw Parkinson has gone viral with his video editing job that combines scenes from the James Bond franchise with audio and video of President Donald Trump and other political figures to create what would surely be a blockbuster hit of the summer: GOLDENHAIR!

Playing off current events with Korea, this trailer displays masterful technique in combining disparate audio and video, resulting in a seamless comedic enterprise. We've watched it several times already, and it leaves us both shaken and stirred.

Enjoy!

Image Writer Triggered over Pride Parade Flag Burner Arrest

Pride Parade Philly Flag Burning

June is LGBT Pride Month. If you've not turned on your Internet in the past 12 days, this may be something that has escaped you. Nationwide, the LGBTQ community has gathered in cities to throw parties, hold parades, and declare their personal independence.

But apparently it's just not a party until someone masks up and starts a fire.

Adversity & Comics: A Civil War Brews Among Creators and Publishers

Jawbreakers Lost Souls

Forget Marvel's CIVIL WAR. The real comics civil war is happening in real life. But instead of costumed heroes, the combatants are creators and publishers of those heroes.

A few weeks back, I wrote about the Indiegogo success of the graphic novel JAWBREAKERS: LOST SOULS, and how it had crowdfunded over $200 thousand, but was encountering pushback from retailers who had opted not to carry the title before it was even solicited in Diamond. To be clear, this is the version of the title that was to be published by Antarctic Press, not the version that would go to the Indiegogo contributors -- who have now pushed their pledges to the point that it's now flirting with the $330 thousand mark.

How to Sell a Comic When Nobody Wants You To: Jawbreakers Crowdfunds Whopping $200K!

Jawbreakers

Crowdfunding is the new method of gaining investors for a pet project. It's easy, it's popular -- and it works. When fans clamored for a VERONICA MARS movie, Director Rob Thomas took the project to Kickstarter to prove to Hollywood executives there was a demand. He raised funds in excess of the target in record time, hitting their $2 million goal in less than a single day.

A similar success story is playing out in the comic book industry these days. Comic book critic and perennial thorn-in-the-side of the industry experts, Richard C. Meyer, has taken on the challenge of "those who can't, critique" and set out to publish his own graphic novel, JAWBREAKERS: LOST SOULS.
