Bombshell 2018 10 - Violette

As the Critical Blast Bombshell feature has grown over the years, we've seen all kinds of cosplay, running the gamut from heroes to game icons to cartoon characters to science fiction figures, done by cosplayers who've been at it for years or who have just entered the field. But we've never yet featured a cosplayer like Violette.

Violette is bundle of energy and optimism, which no costume can disguise, and her range of cosplay knows no limits. Wherever she goes, she makes people smile with her commitment to making the world a better place through superheroism.

She's done all this, and she's not even ten years old yet. Tremble at what she'll accomplish as she matures!

One person Violette has made an impact on is Shea Fontana, the creative force behind the launch of DC SUPERHERO GIRLS. "Violette is a fan who exemplifies the DC Super Hero Girls spirit," Shea says. "She's generous, bold, and freely shares her bright smile and passion with the world. Her enthusiasm for the characters and incredible cosplays often make my day. Violette is a super hero girl!"

What more could we add to that? Please, gentle readers, read on and meet the...

DC SUPERHERO GIRLS (L-R: Starfire, Mera, Star Sapphire, Katana, Bumblebee, Poison Ivy, Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Harley Quinn)

What is your interest in cosplay?

I cosplay because I like being able to express myself thru all the different characters. My favorite part is seeing people smile and enjoy the character I'm doing. Not enough people smile now, and I want to spread some cheer around the world, starting in my community. I want to be a real life superhero, and cosplaying helps me get started. From the first time i watched DC SUPERHERO GIRLS, I knew I wanted to be a hero and help others.

How did you get into cosplay, and what was your first cosplay experience?

I got into cosplaying 3 years ago when I discovered the DC SUPERHERO GIRLS, and found I could relate to the characters. So they inspired me to dress up and to be a hero. Before that I used to be pretty shy and didn't speak to many people. Wearing the hero costumes helped me come out of the shell and now I go everywhere I can in a cape or cowl.

How has your cosplay evolved since you began?

My cosplay has evolved and grown. The quality and look of the costumes itself are better and I have been able to expand the characters I cosplay. I used to only cosplay the DC SUPERHERO GIRLS. Now I do Marvel and gaming characters, and soon anime characters.

Raven (TEEN TITANS, DC COMICS)

What is your "secret identity" outside of cosplaying?

Im a full time YouTuber by day, and superhero-in-training by night. I make videos to make people smile. I post daily videos from skits to comic reviews, toys or comic con interviews. All I want is to do my part in helping make the world a nicer place, one smile at a time. I hope that with my cosplay pictures and videos I get to make millions of people smile one day.

What kind of social or charity activities do you get involved in with your cosplay?

Because of my age I haven't been able to get into many things, but i like to get into my cosplay and go around my community to make people smile. For example, last Christmas I gave out toys and comic books and story books. . I also do lots of toy giveaways on my YouTube channel when I can. I will also go out again this Christmas to giveout presents.

When i get older I do plan to get into charities.

Do you make as much of your own costume as possible or rely on purchased materials -- and is that important overall to cosplaying?

About 70 percent of my costumes are made by my mom, dad, and me. It's important for us to make it because it lets us come up with cool ideas, and we get to spend time together making my cosplays as a family.

What's your favorite cosplay, your "go to" look that you just love to put on and act out?

Teen Titans Raven and DC SUPERHERO GIRLS!

Green Lantern (DC COMICS)
