Fiona Staples Edges out Greg Capullo for 2015's Best Comic Book Artist

When Image Comics launched the epic space opera/fantasy series, SAGA, they may not have known the kind of cult following it would accrue. Never mind the fact that series artist Fiona Staples had already been an Eisner Award nominee for her work on NORTH 40. However, since its inception in 2012, the series has skyrocketed in popularity and has become one of Image’s most talked about titles.

Between 2103 and 2015, series artist Fiona Staples has won multiple Eisner and Harvey awards for her beautiful work. The multi-talented Staples not only handles pencils for SAGA, but she’s also the inker and colorist as well.

Over the course of 2015, Fiona Staples has worked on many projects including interiors for ARCHIE, by Archie Comics, issues #1-3. She also produced a variant covers for CHRONONAUTS #1 and THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #11.

Hailing from Calgary, Canada, over her career she has worked on titles such as:

In a field that saw established artists such as Jim Lee, Skottie Young and Chris Bachalo receive a mere 15% of the combined vote, Fiona Staples had only one other artist that presented any real competition. The voting led her to a narrow victory over Greg Capullo (BATMAN). And with that, she can now add Critical Blast’s: "Best Comic Book Artist of 2015" to her growing list of awards. Capullo’s work on BATMAN is held in high regard among his fans, however it wasn’t enough to stave off the competition in Critical Blast’s fan vote for ‘Best Of’.
