Powerpuff Girld #3 IDW

The city of Townsville! I must admit it has been some time sense I've last stepped foot in good Ole Townsville but if there is one thing I've remembered that still hasn't changed, it is that there is always trouble lurking in the dark parts of this peaceful city and the good old citizens of Townsville are always in the need of someone to save them. Danger is always on the rise and is as annoying as it can be, dealing with Jack Kirby influenced monsters, snotty little rich brats, a monkey bent on subjugating the world to him, and the evil Gender Bender or whatever he is.

There are always three little heroes who can set these villains straight and save the day. In this story, Donny, the girls BFF unicorn, wants to find a job and save up the money to buy the best badminton. He succeeds in finding that job by working for Princess Morbucks, the stuck up rich little brat who we later find out is only using Donny to break into the girls' home and steal the professor's legendary Chemical X.

Determined to become a Powerpuff Girl, the princess's true colors are exposed and Donny is left with a confusing decision to either help or to hurt; but will he make the right choice? Will the day be saved?

Personally, I wasn't too impressed with the art style; as close as it looks to the original, I feel it reminded me too much of a combination of Dennis The Menace and Garfield. Not that I find those comics bad, but when you look at the sub-characters, it just doesn't match up with the show.

One thing that I feel the comic is lacking compared to the show is that I feel the comic is worried about cracking jokes and trying to be funny and hip, when the show focuses more on the struggles of little girl super heroes with huge responsibilities while trying to maintain a regular little girl life trying to fit in, going to preschool, making friends and trying to be as normal as possible. Keep in mind this is my first Powerpuff comic, and I may be partial to the show but I didn't feel that in this comic.

The girls showed the same level of hardships and complications being a young female super hero as Supergirl, but through the eyes of little girls. If the comic was to follow along with that same approach, I feel they could have a real Powerpuff experience for the fans and readers to enjoy.

And when that day comes, I'm sure we will know for sure once again the day was saved thanks to the Powerpuff Girls.
