The second season of SUPERGIRL put Superman back on the small screen, gave Alex and legit love interest, brought Winn to the DEO and intro'd two crossovers.

Packed full of action, romance, and comedy, season 2 of SUPERGIRL was a sophomore success!

The first two episodes see Tyler Hoechlin donning the 'S' as the television version of Superman. Many people loved his confidence and chemistry displayed on screen alongside Melissa Benoist. As a contrast to Henry Cavill's DCEU Superman, whose character is meant to be still finding his way, Hoechlin delivers an experienced hero who is not burdened with the cost of his actions.

The biggest setback to owning SUPERGIRL on Blu-Ray is the lack of crossovers. While it leads into the musical episode with THE FLASH, and also with the 4-episode CW crossover event, you don't get any of the actual story. Just a set-up. This is something the producers have said they'll rectify in season 3.

Some of the events you'll experience in season 2 are:

  • Alex continues her romance with Maggie Sawyer culminating in a life changing question at the end of the season.
  • Winn becomes a full member of the DEO by being the go-to 'tech guy'. Meanwhile he falls in love/lust with an aggressive alien who finds herself on the wrong side of what's good.
  • James continues to be weeded out of the series as his 'Guardian' storyline falls flat. The writer's clearly aren't sure what to do with his character. They wanted to make him more than a photographer, but nothing they do seems to work.
  • Mon-El arrives on the scene to create the best romantic interest for Kara the series has had to offer. Chris Wood and Melissa Benoist are so good together as they provide a great balance in reversing roles, where relationship tropes are concerned.
  • Teri Hatcher provides an excellent foil as a mid-to-late season antagonist who will stop at nothing to "rescue" her son and rebuild the Daxom empire.

Season 2 of SUPERGIRL provides wonderful story beats and plenty of action and comedy to satisfy your superhero television viewing. Heading into its 3rd season, the show has built an excellent foundation of characters and storylines for fans to follow. One of the biggest flaws of the season is the amount of political statements that have been woven into the show. Rather than immersing yourself into a fictional world of superheroes, you find yourself being bludgeoned with comments by the 'social justice' league. What was once a meme, quickly became an episode title and a bold statement for the support of feminism.

Not that Supergirl shouldn't be supporting an ideal such as the fight for women equality, but rather than be subtle about it the show and it's progressive producers turn it into a propaganda machine halfway through the season. This will no doubt alienate some viewers as you feel as though you're being preached to, rather than being entertained.

Along with all 22 episodes of season 2, the Blu-Ray is jammed packed with goodies. Including:

  • Supergirl: 2016 Comic-Con Panel
  • Supergirl: Alien Fight Night
  • Aliens Among Us
  • A Conversation with Andrew Kreisberg and Kevin Smith
  • Supergirl Lives Audio Commentary featuring Andrew Kreisberg and Kevin Smith
  • Did You Know facts for fans

With over 1000 minutes of content season 2 of SUPERGIRL on Blu-Ray becomes a perfect add to collections, for fans of the 'Maid of Might'.

Season 2 Synopsis:
Having left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant at Catco Worldwide Media in order to figure out what she really wants to do, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) continues to work with Hank Henshaw aka Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) and her adoptive sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) at the DEO as Supergirl – protecting the citizens of National City and searching for her missing father Jeremiah (Dean Cain) and the secret research lab Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with her Kryptonian cousin Kal El – aka Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) – to battle new DC Super-Villains both terrestrial and extraterrestrial, as she strives to balance her personal life with friends/allies James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) and more with her busy life as a new Super Hero in SUPERGIRL Season Two.
