Clue Club: Nancy Drew Episode 101, "Pilot"

Nancy Drew 101 Pilot

RIVERDALE meets VERONICA MARS in this new cynical take on Carolyn Keene's iconic girl detective, Nancy Drew.

Nancy (KENNEDY McMANN) is an 18-year-old high school graduate. She's been a sleuth since her early teen years, getting hooked on mystery solving when she broke the case of a missing child. But when her mother died, her world fell apart. She tanked her grades, blew her college admissions, and now works as a waitress in her town that's a mixture of idyllic life and pervasive darkness. But when a wealthy patron's wife is found murdered outside the diner, Nancy and her friends are considered suspects in the crime.

Which is ridiculous, and obviously just the police chief displaying his petty jealousy for all the years Nancy was a pain in his ass, solving crimes he couldn't. Right? It certainly seems that way -- after all, we the audience were witnesses to the entire thing, so we know none of the clue crew committed the crime.

Pep Talk: Riverdale Episode 401, "In Memoriam"

Riverdale 401 In Memoriam

It's the episode we've been dreading, but which we've steeling ourselves for since last March when we received the news of actor LUKE PERRY's untimely passing.

Rather than hand the role of Fred Andrews to another actor, the RIVERDALE writing crew chose to write Fred out of the series, in one of the most down-to-earth, heart-touching episodes of the series.

The Riverdale gang -- Archie (KJ APA), Jughead (COLE SPROUSE), Betty (LILI REINHART), and Veronica (CAMILA MENDES) -- are just starting to get over the horrific events of last season, planning a camping getaway while the town prepares for the first Fourth of July parade since the death of Jason Blossom. That's when Archie gets a life-changing phone call: his father has been killed in a hit-and-run accident.

Catching Up: The Flash Episode 601, "Into the Void"

While we've seen The Monitor, Mar Novu (LaMONICA GARRETT), make a cameo appearance in the season finale of SUPERGIRL, it's his message during this season opener for THE FLASH that really gets the ball rolling for the December 2019 crossover event, CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS.

As Iris (CANDICE PATTON) and Barry (GRANT GUSTIN) continue to mourn the loss of their future-daughter Nora, The Flash has kept busy chasing down the mystery of mute speedsters in Godspeed suits. Iris realizes she still has something left of Nora in her dad's garage -- but he's cleaned out the garage, sending Iris to dig through the local junkyard. But when she finds the item, it's sucked out of her hands by the sudden appearance of a miniature black hole. Yes, a black hole. Where did that come from? That's the mystery of tonight's episode.

Female Fury: Batwoman Episode 101, "Pilot"

Batwoman 101 Pilot

It was the CW series with what was perhaps the most off-putting promo trailers ever created. BATWOMAN starred RUBY ROSE as Kate Kane, and our introduction to her had her uttering a sequence of lines that came off as smarmy and militantly feminist, claiming the Batsuit would be perfect "when it fit a woman," and remarking that she wasn't going to let the credit for her work go to a man (after, of course, borrowing everything right up to the reputation of the man who built it).

When the pilot finally aired in its totality, we do get the line about the Batsuit, but given that it wasn't so concentrated with similar lines, it was easier to swallow.

Why DC's Doom Patrol Deserves a Shiny Winged Statue

Doom Patrol Season One BD

After having endured the dark debacle that was passed off as TITANS on the DC Universe streaming service, I was once bitten, twice shy about DC Universe's other original series, DOOM PATROL, a spin-off of the TITANS series (having made a guest appearance that season).

Trepidatiously, I began watching the opening season, hitting the play button like clicking the pull/spin switch on video slot games, hoping this one was going to roll up better results than TITANS did.

Jackpot!

Dark Crystal Success Shows The Staying Power of a Good Story

Dark Crystal Age of Resistance

1982 movie The Dark Crystal is probably better categorized as a cult classic rather than as a bona fide classic. So its entrance into 2019 popular culture will have taken many by surprise. The Jim Henson Company collaborated with Netflix to produce a ten-episode prequel to the original film. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance explores the magical world of Thra, in which Gelflings look to rebel against the tyrannous rule of the Skeksis.

CW's Superhero Sitcom Gets Magical, Musical in Fourth Season

Legends of Tomorrow Season 4

Starting out as a B-team of heroes in the CW's Arrowverse, DC's LEGENDS OF TOMORROW has evolved from being a time-traveling adventure story that didn't take itself too seriously to being a full-out sitcom of superheroes who reference the main continuity but who remain unaffected by it -- and, apparently, don't affect it all that much themselves, despite what should be some world-changing impacts -- particularly given the very public appearance of some very supernatural happenings.

Rise of Skinwalker: Mountain Monsters Team Stalks the Cherokee Death Cat

Mountain Monsters 605 Cherokee Death Cat

They're called the yee naaldooshii. It's a Navajo phrase for "skinwalkers" -- witches who would go about on all fours while dressed in the skins of animals. Basically furries before they had conventions to attend.

And they're the overarching subject of this season of MOUNTAIN MONSTERS, as tne AIMS Team takes on a quest that will ultimately lead them to the mystery of Spearfinger.

Supergirl Almost Saved by Lex Luthor in Season Four

Supergirl Seasn 4 Blu-ray

SUPERGIRL is one of the Arrowverse shows that stands apart from the rest of the CW shows. First of all, it's not strictly a part of the Arrowverse as it is part of the Arrow-MULTI-verse. Kara (MELISSA BENOIST) lives on a completely different Earth than The Flash and Green Arrow, but crosses over whenever there's a crisis at hand, such as with this fourth season's ELSEWORLDS event, and the upcoming CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS.

Mountain Monsters Season Six -- The Rise of Skinwalker

Mountain Monsters - Silver Giant of Boone County

We spent two weeks hunting for the Waya Woman, an upright-walking wolf creature. We didn't find her, but we did stumble over an urban legend about a murdered family, resulting in some ghost sightings and the appearance of an old photograph. While the AIMS team is leaving that area behind now, the events still have a direct bearing on tonight's episode, as we enter Boone County, West Virginia to hunt a giant bear called the Silver Giant.

While Huck was in the closet of ghosts, he saw the women whose photograph he found -- the woman who murdered her family. She spoke to him, and he knew the langauge. In English, she was saying she was a "skinwalker," and the only way one can become a skinwalker is to perform a heinous act -- the murder of a family member.

Hilltop Walking Dead Walk Highlight of Bubbafest 2019

Bubbafest Walking Dead Hilltop Walk

Another BubbaFest has gone into the books, and one of this year's highlight's was a chance for attendees to enter the world of THE WALKING DEAD and participate in a photo shoot that put them right into the thick of the series.

Entering the walk put attendees alongside Rick Grimes (portrayed by Cecil Grimes Cosplay) and Negan (Negan Unchained Cosplay), as they encounter the serie's "Hilltop Kid," played by series actress Kaylie Turner.

Our sometimes guest-contributor, That Umbrella Guy, was among the attendees, and brings us this video of his meeting with the folks who brought THE WALKING DEAD... to life.

The AIMS Team Hunts Waya Woman, Finds Old Coffee Can

Secret of the Blue House - Mountain Monsters 603

When the AIMS Team didn't find the Waya Woman last episode, they decided to return to Jackson County and continue the hunt for this 7-foot tall wolf creature. And there's still the mystery of the triangular stone carving in the old house that points (for reasons unknown) to locations of sacrificial alters in two directions -- and something else in the third.

Arrow's Plot-Packed Seventh Season Lands on Blu-ray

Arrow Season 7

The seventh season of ARROW brings with it echoes of the Green Arrow movie idea that was tossed around in the late 1990s. SUPERMAX was teased as a film about a superhero who gets incarcerated in a maximum security prison with the people he helped put there. It was later revealed that superhero was going to be Green Arrow, but the movie never made it out of development.

Now in ARROW we get a taste of what that movie might have been, as Oliver Queen (STEPHEN AMELL) is arrested for his activities as the Green Arrow under a plea deal that allowed the rest of Team Arrow -- including his wife, Felicity (EMILY BETT RICKARDS) -- to walk free. But while Oliver's new identity is Inmate 4587, a new Green Arrow has taken to the streets, one whose identity remains a mystery to all.

Time Travel Equals Instant Parenthood for The Flash in Season Five, Now on Blu-ray

Flash Season 5

The fourth season of THE FLASH ended with the world-shattering introduction of Nora West-Allen (JESSICA PARKER KENNEDY), the super-speedster XS from the future. Now, in typical DC Comics canon, XS is Jenny Ognatz, from a thousand years in the future and a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. The children of The Flash were supposed to be The Tornado Twins, one of whom would give birth to Bart Allen, the speedster known as Impulse. And that may still be the future for The Flash. Because the timeline is malleable.

Why Oh Why, Waya Woman? Mountain Monsters Begins The Quest for the Spearfinger

Mountain Monsters 602 - Waya Woman

The Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings (AIMS) team is back in West Virginia, taking the first step in their quest to unravel the mystery of the creature known as the Spearfinger.

Having been given a mission of sorts by a mysterious person who kidnapped Buck last season, the AIMS team must go on the hunt for a handful of strange cryptids, which will ultimately lead them to the big bad monster. They start with the Waya Woman, aka Queen of the Blood Wolves. Unlike the Woman of the Woods, the Waya Woman is a beast, a 7-foot-tall wolf creature that walks on its hind legs.

A Return to the Dark Forest Opens Doors for Season of New Investigations for Mountain Monsters

Mountain Monsters Season 6

It's been 18 months since Mountain Monsters finished its fifth season run on Destination America. That's 18 months since Huckleberry pulled a tiny skull out of Jeff's nose, and since Buck was forced to ride away to places unknown with a masked man in his truck.

But now they're back, having moved to the Travel Channel, and after a much discussed and often maligned season, in which the team went from single-episode monster hunts to a season-long story arc, the Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings (AIMS) team has found a way to segue out of that adventure and back into looking for the monsters in the mountains.

Chrisley Knows Best Stars Indicted on Bank Fraud Charges

Todd and Julie Chrisley - Indicted

It seems no reality show goes on for very long without one or more of the stars making news for reasons other than the show. HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS went through the drama of Joe and Theresa Giudice having to serve sentences for financial fraud. SURVIVOR's Richard Hatch put his time into the system for failing to pay taxes on his million-dollar winnings.

Now the judicial spotlight is on Todd and Julie Chrisley, the leads of USA Network's CHRISLEY KNOWS BEST. The Chrisleys, and former CPA Peter Tarantino, were all charged August 14, 2019 in Georgia’s Northern District. The charges are numerous, and include conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, actual wire fraud and tax evasion.

Somewhere, original reality star focal point Al Capone is chuckling: "They never learn."

Holy Retro TV! Could Caped Crusaders have Comeback in CW's Crisis Crossover

Crisis Batman Robin

The news from CW about the next season's huge crossover (just around the corner, really, with episodes in December 2019 and January 2020) continue to tease fans with new potentials at every turn. With the recent revelation that KEVIN CONROY will be appearing in the event as an older Bruce Wayne, it's easy to think he may be playing the Bruce Wayne seen in BATMAN BEYOND.

But there's also the possibility he's playing an entirely different Batman -- perhaps a kinder, gentler, exceedingly poite and moral Batman.

Earlier it was revealed that BURT WARD would also have a role to play in the upcoming CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS. Ward, of course, played Robin in the 1960s Batman television show, opposite of Adam West. With the addition of Conroy to the multiversal cast, it raises the potential likelihood that what we may get to see are a retired Dynamic Duo -- a Batman and Robin who, on another Earth, had their heyday in the swinging 60s and 70s.
