Created by psychologist William Moulton Marston in 1941, Wonder Woman has been a sword-wielding, lasso-slinging icon over the past 75 years and now she has a new logo to commemorate the occasion.
"There's no better time than now," speaking of Wonder Woman's new logo, Diane Nelson, DC Entertainment president, told PEOPLE.com, "The overall conversation that's happening in our culture right now – about having stronger gender equality representation in media and in government and in education and all of it just makes it the perfect time to see a character like Wonder Woman out there."
To go along with the new logo, this month, Wonder Woman will be getting a new comic book that launches alongside DC's 'Rebirth' initiative. Mattel will be shipping Wonder Woman Barbie dolls as well. Having been portrayed by Gal Gadot in this year's most talked about movie: BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, and debuting in her first solo movie, WONDER WOMAN, in 2017, things are really looking up for the heroine.
Being a symbol of strength and equality for women everywhere, as she goes toe-to-toe with some of DC's greatest male heroes, Wonder Woman is sure to dominate the headlines as she celebrates her 75th anniversary.
Recognition for Wonder Woman is long overdue and while it may have taken 75 years for her to get the spotlight, don't expect her to relinquish it any time soon. DC is making strides to nuture fans for future generations. Her legion of fans will only become more powerful as she's featured in the kids web-series DC Super Hero Girls. The animated shorts features a high-school aged Wonder Woman that offers a character many young girls can relate to.
