Power Rangers News: Season 23 debut date and Season 24 Announced!

Saban has announced the debut date of Power Rangers Dino Super Charge along with some information on what the future holds for the franchise.

Dino Super Charge will be returning January 30 on Nickelodeon.  Saban is saying that Dino Super Charge will feature the biggest team of Power Rangers yet with ten active Rangers.  We have already met the Red, Blue, Pink, Black, Green, Gold, Graphite and Purple Rangers.  And last season we found out that there was someone out there who had bonded to the Aqua Energem.  Can't wait to see who the Aqua Ranger is and who our mysterious tenth Ranger is too.

For more on Dino Charge, please check out my earlier "Critical Depth" columns.

Young Bruce Wayne Investigates Ducard Academy in Scholastic's Study Hall of Justice

DC Comics Secret Hero Society Study Hall of Justice

There's a new kid in school at Ducard Academy this year. His name is Bruce Wayne, and he's a little too curious for his own good. But he can't stop himself from getting involved from investigating the strange happenings: the bullies led by Bane, the gang of clowns who roam the halls, the always-angry Coach Zod, and the ever-present shadowy ninjas who stick to the shadows of the school.

Marvel continues their plan to dominate all media with Jessica Jones

My wife and I binged watched JESSICA JONES over the holiday break.  We were so engaged with the show that we ended up knocking off 4 or even 5 episodes off at a time.  JESSICA JONES is the television adaptation of the comic series, ALIAS, which we both loved.

A Win for Supergirl is a Win for Women Everywhere

The 2015 People's Choice awards were held last night and SUPERGIRL took home the award for best new drama!

When the show was first announced, while it was met with much excitement, there was concern about how it would fare on CBS. Being a major network means that it would be on a short leash as far as ratings go.

A show like SUPERGIRL seemed more appropriate for 'The CW' where established hit drama's, ARROW and THE FLASH, continue to have success.

"New Year, New Me" Superhero Edition (Infographic)

With the new year upon us, the "New Year, New Me" Facebook posts are in full swing! The folks over at Morphsuits have come up with a clever infographic to see what superheroes are coming up with for their resolutions.

My personal favorites are the goals set by Cyclops and Batman. To view the infographic, click on the image to open it and enjoy the light-hearted take on some super self-relfection.

Add a clever resolution, for a hero you think needs some self-improvement, in the comment section below!

Head Coach/OC Duo That's Perfect for the Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles off-season got started a little early with the firing of Chip Kelly a week before their finale against the Giants. So as their search for a new Head Coach begins, the solution to success may be nesting at their fingertips.

With all kinds of candidates lined up for interviews with the Eagles brass, one in particular has already had his. Eagles Offensive Coordinator (and interim head coach) Pat Shurmer. Retaining him will be the best way to solve their QB situation and fix their defense in one fell swoop.

Not as the head coach though. That designation should go to former Philly guy, and current Panthers DC, Sean McDermott.

Does This Toy Spoil Batman V Superman?

Walking through Wal-Mart tonight I discovered a display case full of toys for the upcoming movie: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I was excited to see that the back of the packaging showed that a Wonder Woman action figure is available, unfortunately there were none to be found. Mind you, the display case was almost entirely full of Batman and Superman figures. So either Wonder Woman didn't ship, or she's the only one that has been purchased and she sold out.

I digress...

During my search for a Wonder Woman action figure I discovered a "Gauntlet Assault" Batman. As he stood there all Batman-y, in his suit of gold with abs outlined in green, he wore giant green gauntlets on each hand. His fists were poised for pounding.

CD Giveaway Contest: Brian Lisik and the Unfortunates, "Curtisinterruptedus"

Brian Lisik and the Unfortunates, "Curtisinterruptedus"

“(Bassist/guitarist) Steve (Norgrove) and I had talked about doing a sort of low-key, homemade acoustic album," says Brian Lisik of Curtisinterruptedus, follow-up to his 2012 release The Mess That Money Could Buy. It is his fourth solo release since cutting his musical teeth as the founder and frontman of ‘90s slop rockers The Giants of Science.

Throughout, the singer and his crack band, the Unfortunates (Norgrove, guitarist Ray Flanagan, and drummer Craig Lisik), along with co-producer Benjamin Payne (drums, guitars, percussion, banjo, backing vocals) and guests including Roberts; Tim Longfellow (Todd Rundgren, Alex Bevan) on piano, organ and accordion; and cellist Matt Reese (The Flying Carpet People) harken back to the sounds of Big Star, Cheap Trick, early Aerosmith and John (when he was still Cougar) Mellencamp.

DEATHGASM: Proof You Can Be a Headbanger and Still Have a Sense of Humor

Deathgasm Blu-ray New Zealand

DEATHGASM on Blu-ray disc from Metal Heads / Dark Sky Films is a Heavy Metal gore fest horror/comedy that is as serious as its name implies. What I mean is that when you read the title of this movie, the first thing that comes to mind is not “This is going to be scary, and terrifying.” No, the first thing that is going to come to mind is probably what came to mine: ”I bet this is a hoot!” And, my friends, it is.

Filmed in New Zealand with mostly local actors, DEATHGASM tells the story of a would-be headbanger, Brodie (Milo Cawthorne), who is sent to live with his straight-laced uncle and his family after his mother get arrested. He is immediately disliked by his jock cousin and his friends at school because he’s a headbanger and listens to what they call "devil-worshiping, heavy metal music."

Honey, I Shrunk the Avenger: Ant-Man Debuts on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital

Ant-Man Marvel Cinematic Universe

Scott Lang (Paul Rudd, PARKS AND RECREATION) is just getting out of prison for burglary -- but of the social justice kind, so that makes it okay. The particulars of his case -- as well as his character and skills -- bring him to the attention of Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who wants him to break into a vault to steal back technology Pym invented that is being prepped for military use and sold to the baddest bad guys in the Marvel Universe, Hydra.

Eva Cassidy, Nightbird: One night, one take, one incredible performance!

Eva Cassidy Nightbird Blix Street Critical Blast Dennis Russo

One of the joys in getting to review music is getting to listen to someone you've never heard of before and after listening to them you realized you missed something special for a long time.

Such is the case for Eva Cassidy. I had never heard of Eva or her music prior to listing to the NIGHTBIRD 2CD set I am reviewing here. I could forgive myself for not hearing of it if Eva was someone relatively new on the scene. That is not the case here, so I could kick myself in the pants for not having heard of her sooner and been listening to her music all this time! Eva Cassidy passed away in November 1996 at the age of 33 from melanoma a mere 10 months or so after the music on these CD was recorded.

Joy

Jennifer Lawrence Joy

Loosely based on the life of inventor and entrepreneur Joy Mangano, JOY is supposed to be "a story of a family across four generations, centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right." ;Joy brings David O. Russell, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and Bradley Cooper back together again after SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK.; I had seen SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK and enjoyed it thoroughly so I went into this movie with high hopes.; I had watched the trailer so I knew this was supposed to be an inspirational tale about a woman who achieves success.; Good holiday fodder.
