Scholastic books offers a wonderful view into the backstory of the most iconic superhero in all of comics, in chapter form. With a forward by the last son of Krypton, that summarizes his journey, the book will enlighten your young reader. Ten short chapters provide insight on how Superman went from orphan alien, raised in Smallville, to beloved superhero and protector of Metropolis (and Earth)!
There are profiles that introduce the reader to important characters in Clark Kent's life such as, Perry White, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. And of course where Clark Kent goes, Superman is just a change of clothes away, so among those profiles are characters that important to his life as well such as Supergirl and Lana Lang. Villains round out the profiles with nefarious foes that include General Zod and Lex Luthor.
Author, Daniel Wallace, does a superb job of capturing the essence of what makes Superman one of the world's finest heroes. The book honors the iconic stories of the past, while telling them in a way children can comprehend. There's a wonderful balance of detail and brevity that allows your reader to become a fan before boredom sets in. Illustrator Patrick Spaziante provides accompanying art that illustrates important moments and places as the story is being told.
