It's a night of funerals, betrayals...and war!
Sofia Falcone's plans for Gotham have finally put the city on the brink of a gang war with Oswald "The Penguin" Cobblepot. And to put an end to that and keep the peace: Daddy's home! Yes, Carmine Falcone is back in Gotham, and he's there to give his little girl a spanking and cart her cute little butt back home with him. But a drive-by shooting changes everything.
Operating on the assumption that Penguin's men were behind the attack, Sofia turns to Jim Gordon to arrest him. But without proof of Penguin's involvement, there's nothing he can do to him. But when Penguin confronts Jim in the middle of the GCPD, Jim can do one thing! He can rally the police behind him and take the war to Penguin's thugs. And this he does with great success.

James Gordon: Ben McKenzie |
Still lacking something he can place directly at Penguin's feet, Sofia gifts him with a crime: the murder of the young orphan, Martin. She tells Gordon how she saw him put Martin in a car and then blow it up. Of course, we know that Penguin faked that, and had a tunnel beneath the car waiting to save Martin. When Gordon goes to arrest Penguin for this murder, Penguin laughs and explains how he faked it. He then turns to his right-hand man, Victor Zsasz, for corroboration.
And this is when we see how far ahead Sofia Falcone has been playing this game.
Zsasz corroborates Sofia's story that Penguin killed Martin. He's been loyal to the Falcones all along, which means Sofia knew Martin hadn't been killed.
Penguin is hauled off to Blackgate, where he finds himself in a cell right next door to a familiar smiling face.
This episode also sees Tabitha Galavan going to violent extremes to jolt Solomon Grundy out of his amnesiatic stupor so that he'll remember he's Butch Gilzean, her lover. And over at Wayne Manor, the confrontation gets physical when Alfred and Bruce come to blows, resulting in someone being forced to leave the manor.
It's going to be a long, cold, lonely winter waiting for this hiatus to end!
