Troma has rereleased its 1987 break-out film, SURF NAZIS MUST DIE, to Blu-ray. The loving fans of this low budget, highly insane, cult classic can once again grace their collection shelves with yet another repackaging of one of Troma’s highly touted first films.

Among the notable nominees this year, David Hahn brought in 4.35% of the vote for his work on Impossible 2 with Karl Kesel. Marco Maccagni stepped up with 7.25% of the vote for Monster M.D. while Clint Hilinski took 8.70% percent with Pirate Queen, and Tim Lim garnered 11.59% for Kamen America.

Which brings us to the top three artists among this year's awards. In third place, we have Brian Balondo with 14.49% of the tally for his work on Bad Bug Media's Pocus Hocus. Just ahead of him, it's Alexia Veldhuisen in second place with 18.84% of the vote for her work on anthropomorphic samurai squirrel epic, 47 Furious Tails.

The 21st century indie comics renaissance has introduced readers to a plethora of writers and artists that, were it not for the self-publishing opportunities afforded by the technologies of digital printing and online crowdfunding, might have otherwise gone unnoticed. The response to this year's Best Comics Writer poll -- and indeed all the comic book related categories this year -- speaks to a hunger in the market for new material by fresh voices.

The nominees for Best Comic of 2021 was a lengthy list, and picking through it to pick the best of the best was a lot like being asked to name your favorite child. But in the end, there were winners and losers and, for the first time in the history of Critical Blast, DC Comics had no position in the rankings.

Indeed, Marvel Comics only had one title bubble toward the top with King in Black, which tied with the Dave Sim crowdfunded hardcover, The Strange Death of Alex Raymond at 5.41% of all votes cast. From that point forward, the indie comics led the charge, with How to Die and Monster M.D. taking 6.76% each. 

The much acclaimed fan-favorite, Kamen America from Iconic Comics, took third place in the polls with a respectable 10.81% of the ballot, while there was a tie for second between 47 Furious Tales from Sinopa and Pocus Hocus from Bad Bug Media, each having a strong 17.57% of the vote.

It's the year of the villain for the Critical Blast Best of 2021 Awards. After tabulating the votes that awarded Willem Dafoe our award for Best Film Actor, we turned toward the category of Best Series Actor -- those men and women who bring our episodic fantasies and adventures to life.

Not only did superhero actors dominate the category, but the Disney + coterie of streaming shows nearly swamped the nominations. While Luke Wilson took 8.7% of the vote for his work on Stargirl (tying with Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis), from that point forward every vote was for an actor on a Disney + MCU series.

Hailee Stanfeld claimed 10.14% of the vote for her work on Hawkeye, and Elizabeth Olson took a sizeable portion of the ballots to earn the second top spot for WandaVision.

Critical Blast's Best of the Year awards have had strong winners before, but it's rare to have such an overwhelming blowout as seen in this year's Best Film Actor of 2021.

With nods going to McKenna Grace for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Bob Odenkirk for Nobody and Chris Pratt for The Tomorrow War, the presence of Spider-Man: No Way Home starts to loom large in the voting.

Andrew Garfield has Spider-fans talking again after his performance, and it shows with the 9.86% of the votes he pulled in this year's polling. However, with two movies giving him momentum, Ryan Reynolds pulled ahead with 15.49% of teh vote.

It didn't take long before the advent of streaming services turned the entire paradigm of home-delivered episodic storytelling on its head. Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, Amazon, and a host of others have all become de facto television networks, each putting out exclusive content that drives viewer counts. It's become such a go-to choice 

for so many that this year we only had one traditional television network make the cut with enough votes to earn a spot in the rankings: CW's Stargirl, which took 4.41% of all votes cast, tying with Netflix's Lupin, IMDb's Alex Rider, and Apple TV's Ted Lasso.
