Today, Nintendo launched a 15-minute Nintendo Direct mini which focused on heavily on games coming for the Switch.

Here's the thing, I love my Switch, but at times it just feels like this system is going to be primarily ports, including ports for games that already came out years ago.  There are a lot of cool announcements here, but if I didn't have a Switch yet, there is nothing here that really grabs me as a potential customer.  And still no sign of a Virtual Console coming anytime soon, so I am pretty much treating that as as "never going to happen."

The whole Direct just makes it feel like developers are looking at Switch as a secondary system.  There are plenty of games here I will check out, but pretty much Kirby Star Allies and Ys VIII are the only ones that feel like a day one purchase for me.

  • The World Ends With You – Final Remix (No date given)

This is actually one of my favorite 3DS games.  I am pretty surprised to see it coming to the Switch.  Hopefully this will lead to more games in this series, it certainly seemed like it could make a great series to me when I played it back in the day

  • New Fighters added to Pokken Tournament DX as DLC

Wave 1 (Jan 31): Aegislash (one of my favorite Pokemon) will be added as a playable character.  Rayquaza & Mimikyu as support characters

Wave 2 (Mar 23): - Blastoise added as playavble character, Mew and Celebi as support

There will also be a Battle Pack (season pass) available immediately which will includes both waves (when they release) and additional clothing and customizing items for your avatar.

  • Kirby Star Allies (March 16)

KSA will featuie new copy abilities for Kirby including Artist and Spider.  You will also be able to mix and match abilities to create combo abilities for your ally characters.  The game will also feature 4 player co-op.

  • Kirby Battle Royale – Demo currently available for 3DS

  • Dragon Quest Buildiers

Demo added for Switch on January 11

  • Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (Spring 2018)

Will contain all the content from the Wii U and 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors, including all the DLC.  You will be able to play 2 plater split screen on the Switch version, and Zelda and Link will get outfits based on Breath of the Wild

  • Mario Tennis Aces (Spring 2018)

New Mario Tennis game featuring a story mode with missions and boss battles

  • Ys VIII : Lacrimosa of Dana (Summer 2018)

I actually had no idea they were still making Ys games.  This game was previously available on Vita, PS4, and PC.  I haven’t even heard of the series since Genesis days. Seems to be a fast-paced action RPG.  I will definitely be checking it out.

  • Super Mario Odyssey (February 2018)

SMO is getting a free update called Luigi’s Balloon World! I love the bowtie.  Balloon World seems to be a competitive game featuring a few different modes.  One requires one player to hide a balloon while the other player has to find it.  There is also a Find It mode where you try to find balloons hidden by other players all over the world. The update will also include new outfits like Knight Mario, Shades Mario, and Musician Mario.

Personally, I would have been willing to PAY for a full download World.  Love Mario Odyssey and really want more content.

  • SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy (Summer 2018)

Two on Two fighting game featuring the women of SNK fighting games.  This game will also allow you to customize your fighters.

  • NEOGEO Art of Fighting 2 – Available today in Nintendo eShop for Switch

  • Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Spring 2018)

DLC coming with a new story featuring Donkey Kong as a playable character

  • Payday 2 (February 27, 2018)

Multiplayer Co-op Shooter will coming to Nintendo Switch with new timed exclusive character, a hacker named Joy.

  • Fe (February 16, 2018)

New platforming adventure coming for Switch. Beautiful looking world, and it seems to use music to help your character get new abilities.

  • Celeste (January 25, 2018)

Real old school style 2-D platformer.

  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (May 4, 2018)

Port of the Wii U game.  Funky Kong has been added as a playable character, though it seems like Funky is basically designed to be Easy Mode.

  • Dark Souls Remastered (May 25, 2018)

The Direct ended with a teaser trailer for Dark Souls Remastered.  No other info, just a quick tease.
