Bobcat Goldthwait's Misfits & Monsters- Episode 2 "Face in the Car Lot"

Guest Star(s): Tara Lynne Barr, Dave Foley, David Koechner

Written and Directed by Bobcat Goldthwait

In the second episode, political operative Bull Bidwell (Dave Foley) has come to Texas to convince Del Wainwright (David Koechner) that he has what it takes to become president.  Wainwright runs a massive used car empire, and he's completely unqualified.  Plus he has a lot of skeletons in his closet...including the fact that he is a werewolf from a long line of werewolves.  Meanwhile, reporter Regina Balley (Tara Lynne Barr) is looking to make a name for herself, which puts her directly in Bull and Del's path.

Of the four episodes I watched, this was by far my least favorite.  This episode was a little heavy handed in its political messaging.  When Del is revealed to be a murdering werewolf, a large group of voters decide "hey, this is the change we need" so he wins in a landslide.   The cast actually did a great job with what they were given.  And it was fun to see Dave Foley playing way outside his normal type.  But the great cast just wasn't enough to carry the episode for me.

I also thought the effects were ridiculously cartoony, especially the vampire who tries to warn Regina about how dangerous Wainwright can be.  It just make it real hard to take the episode all that seriously.   Granted the show is supposed to be a comedy, but you still need to have the horror moments look convincing or the show loses its balance.

I did like that this episode was very different from "Bubba the Bear."  Actually all four episodes they have aired so far were very different from each other, so I give them a ton of credit for that.  And the ending was kind of unexpected.  I don't know if it was all that satisfying, but it certainly didn't fall into any cliches.

I forgot to mention this with the first episode, but I love that at the end of each episode, there is a short "making of" segment with Bobcat Goldthwait.   I enjoy seeing how movies and TV shows are made, so this is a nice touch.

All in all, I did enjoy the episode, but since I binged watched all four episodes at once, it just was the one that least grabbed me as a viewer.
