Friday the 13th: Vengeance

Friday the 13th: Vengeance is a crowdfunded full-length fan-film created by Director Jeremy Brown that closed out its campaign in August of 2020, raising $11,982.  The project then went in demand and raised another $8,544, bringing the total to a KILLER $20,536 from a total of 537 backers before closing for good in December of 2020.

Originally conceived as the fan-film Mythos, it failed to reach its funding goal, and was also set back due to some producer and actor disagreements -- until a script change and the addition of a few actors you may recognize proved that every cloud could have a BLOODY lining after all.

The story takes place as a direct sequel to Friday the 13th: Part 6. Tommy Jarvis is now missing and his two daughters, Angelica and Ashley, procure the help of a team of other survivors’ relatives from the past films in the franchise to go look for him. But they are not the only ones in the woods.

The movie also gives us the FIRST LOOK at Elias Voorhees, Jason’s father (played by C.J. Graham, whom you may know as the actor that played Jason in the official sixth installment of the Friday the 13th film series). Elias is also lurking in the woods looking for what happened to his family, as well as dispatching a few bumpkin hunters and annoying teenagers that get in his way while doing so: Like father, like son.

The late Steve Dash also makes one of his last film appearances as local Sheriff Jason Realotti, whom you may also know as Jason in the official second installment of the Friday the 13th film series. That's a grand total of THREE JASONS in ONE FILM!

Other notable cast members include Diana Prince (Darcy the Mail girl from Joe Bob Briggs Last Drive in) as Marilyn, Tommy McLoughlin as Grave keeper Walt and Consultant (he was the Writer and Director on Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives), Brandon Wilson (Buggzy from the Friday the 13th Video Game) as Aiden, as well as notable crew members Mick Strawn (Nightmare on Elm Street 3&4, Blade, Leatherface, Candyman, Boogie Nights) and (what would a Friday the 13th movie be without) Composer Harry Manfredini to set the tone of the entire film and immerse us into that world once again.

I highly recommend this movie if you are able to find a copy on the secondary markets. Blu-ray, DVD and limited VHS copies were made available during the campaign, and seem to be commanding a premium price to collectors and fans alike that want to get their Jason fix anyway they can.

So here’s to hoping we see more crowdfunded films in the future. Remember, the only way we can change Hollywood and print media’s views is if we start making things we want to see ourselves and support those who are making them too. We are all in this together.
